I'm Pretty Excited to Finally Have a Site Again
20 May 2026When I was smaller, I spent maybe a little too much time unsupervised online. Ups and downs -- got to read a lot of GameFAQs for games I never actually played, and talked to a few too many strangers on Omegle. Oops! All that time, though, did make me enamored with web-crawling and, of course, websites.
Social media as we know it now was still early on, still making its way back then. Webforums were my primary stomping ground; I did a lot of participating in roleplay threads with people I thought were older than me but, in hindsight, were probably a bunch of other middle schoolers. I've dredged up the writing from that time and am proud to say that I've definitely surpassed my eleven year old self in terms of quality. At least, I like to think so.
Another prevailing memory of these internet explorations is of geocities pages discussing early Pokemon rumors. By "early Pokemon" I mean the earliest: Red and Blue, games I hadn't even played (and were over 10 years old) at the time. These sites were very obviously handwritten, and in the best way. Tiled image backgrounds, unreadable font colors, low-res gifs, all coming together to describe the appearance of Pokegods and Mews under trucks. The handcraftedness really captured my imagination. I hope some of that spirit is visible in this site you're reading now.
I've had a few sites over the years, all now defunct. For a while I was content with my itch.io page being the place for my work, but then something happened...who knows what that might have been!
I've been working on this site on and off for about half a year, largely inspired by other artists I look up to having made sites of their own. I used eleventy to handle all the content (it's a fun framework!), and was inspired to use it by its inclusion in Bagenzo's Strawberry Starter, which is a cool tool for getting into website building, particularly if you're less stubborn than I am about DIY-ing things like CSS. (CSS, how I loathe you!)
Other things I'm excited about re: having a website:
- I've never had a real blog before! It'll be cool if I actually keep using it! A favorite work distraction of mine is diving into others' blog posts, I hope to contribute to that ecosystem.
- I can post my photography in one place!
- Maybe I can play around with having an RSS feed!
Thanks for visiting the site! Hopefully I keep it up, keep the cobwebs away.
